Rural Women & Empowerment
Someone has rightly said that “The empowered women are powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description.” An empowered woman has the ability to do good not only for her family but also for society. When a woman lives a safe, filling, and productive life, she can reach her fullest potential. They can also contribute their skills to the workforce and help keep their family happy and healthier. Women's workforce also helps in improving the economic status of the society and country.
There is 48 percent of the total women population in the rural regions of India. The Rural women in our country play a very vital role in their households and society. They support their households and communities in achieving food and nutrition security, generating income, and improving overall well-being.
These women help in the agricultural, and rural enterprises and help in boosting local & global economies. While there are great examples in our country of women equality & empowerment. These women play such an important role in our society, they still have to struggle to get the most basic facilities. Women in rural areas struggle to achieve basic hygiene, food, medical, financial facilities & basic human rights. Due to society's taboos & restrictions. Empowering these hard working women is the key to not only securing their future but also securing their family’s future.
A key way to empower these women is through education. Women & young girls need to be provided with education facilities so that in the future they can get meaningful work & be able to secure their future. When provided with education the chances of these girls getting married at a younger age will also reduce, which will help them build a stronger family. Education will also help in bringing gender equality to society.
The Deep-rooted gender inequitable relations, power dynamics, and social norms in India add to the vulnerabilities and marginalization of women in many communities. Hence, CARE India believes in gender equality and thus works vigorously towards empowering women. We aim to bring a gender transformative change at the individual, household, and community levels. CARE India also believes that healthy, educated and empowered women and girls are the agents of change. Hence, when they are supported, they gain opportunities to speak up and advocate against injustice towards them in the rural and urban societies. They also are able to rise above the social and economic standards and feed this into future generations.
Gender equality is the very first step towards the vision of empowering a woman. At CARE India, they do this through their two major programs, SAJHA and Family Planning. In SAJHA, they help women who have faced physical abuse from their intimate partners/spouses. CARE is strengthening these women by providing them help with medical facilities, making them aware of the frontline workers regarding services available and approach towards violence against women. It also improves case management with the government health systems.
In the Family Planning initiative, we ensure that all people in the reproductive age group have the right to choose a method of their choice, access to the basket of choices and he/she can choose them voluntarily and through informed choice.
CARE India initiatives help women to take a stand for themselves in society and fight against the evil in society. You can help in making the world a better place for all by sponsoring a woman, while providing her a tool to fight against the injustice of the society & get what she deserves.
